NANI READY FOR CHELSEA CHALLENGE

Despite the disappointing display and result in Munich, Nani insists confidence is high within the United camp ahead of Saturday's title tussle with Chelsea.

One point ahead of the Blues, the Reds know victory at Old Trafford would be a huge step forward in the quest for a record fourth consecutive crown.

"It’s very important that we stay ahead of our rivals and don’t give them any encouragement," Nani told United Review.

"It will be a big result for us if we can win on Saturday. It will give us a great chance to win the league."

Hot on the heels of United's biggest game of the league campaign is the must-win return match with Bayern Munich, and Nani says everyone is fully prepared for the challenges ahead.

"It feels normal to have big game after big game at this stage of the season and I think you must enjoy the pressure," he declared.

"You’re up against big teams in the Champions League and every game in the league is important, but we all feel ready for the challenge and are determined to win everything we can."

UNITED v CHELSEA: FIVE FANTASTIC WINS

We recall the Reds' last five home wins over the Blues...

24 April 2000, 3-2 (Yorke 2, Solskjaer)
With United's title secured two days previously, it was party time at OT. Dwight Yorke scored first after ten minutes, only for Dan Petrescu to equalise. The visitors went 2-1 up when Gianfranco Zola volleyed home but United were level by half-time, thanks to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The newly-crowned champions sealed the win when Yorke tapped home his second goal of the game.

18 January 2003, 2-1 (Scholes, Forlan)
Eidur Gudjohnsen gave the visitors the lead, but Scholes’ header from Beckham’s pinpoint cross levelled proceedings shortly before the break. Despite peppering Carlo Cudicini's goal in the second half, the game looked destined for a draw until Juan Sebastian Veron threaded a ball through for Diego Forlan to smash home at the Stretford End. Get in!

6 November 2005, 1-0 (Fletcher)
The media vultures were circling Old Trafford, with United trailing the champions Chelsea in the title race and Roy Keane's criticism of several team-mates making headlines. If the captain's words were meant to stir a reaction, they seemed to work. Amid a feisty atmosphere, the Reds claimed a big win, courtesy of Darren Fletcher’s looping far-post header.

23 September 2007, 2-0 (Tevez, Saha)
Chelsea were under the new management of Avram Grant, following Jose Mourinho's shock exit earlier in the week. The Reds piled on the misery for the Blues, taking the lead in first-half stoppage time through Carlos Tevez's first goal for United. However the win was not sealed until the 90th minute when Louis Saha won and converted a spot kick.

11 January 2009, 3-0 (Vidic, Rooney, Berbatov)
The atmosphere was rocking and John Terry's every touch was greeted with ironic cheers by a home crowd determined to milk his penalty miss in Moscow. Nemanja Vidic headed in the first goal from a corner and Wayne Rooney doubled the lead from Patrice Evra’s peach of a cross. Dimitar Berbatov poked home in the last five minutes to send an emphatic warning to leaders Liverpool.

LEGEND BACKS REDS FOR BIG WEEK AHEAD

United legend Bryan Robson says the next few days will define the season, and he's backing the Reds to deliver.

First up is a title bout with Chelsea that could go a long way to deciding the destination of this season's league crown; then Bayern Munich come to Manchester for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie.

"We're in the middle of a hugely significant week, important for everyone at the club," he told ManUtd.com. "If the lads believe in themselves - which I'm sure they do - then and I'm confident that we will come out with positive results.

"It's still wide open in our Champions League tie with Bayern, and if we can get a good result against Chelsea on Saturday then I believe we’ll go on to win the title."

Captain Marvel says the United players will be doing everything they can to ensure they deliver top performances in the next two games - and says every effort will be taken to prepare physically and mentally for the challenges ahead.

"In a big week like this you need to take care of yourself mentally and physically," says Robbo. "The players have got to just keep themselves ticking over in training, while your preparation in terms of diet, nutrition and resting at the right times has to be as good as at any time in your career. You want to give yourself every opportunity to be as fit as you possibly can for these games."
