I've got both countries in my heart [Danny's parents are Ghanaian] and had a couple of cousins in the Ghana end. We had a laugh after the game as they were booing me as well! It was a bit of a mad moment for me but obviously I'm delighted to get off the mark. The newspapers said you were still undecided where your international future lies. Can you clear that up?
I got misquoted on one of the questions. One of the press asked me if I was still eligible to play for Ghana as I'd only played in a friendly game and it was just a misquotation to be fair. My future looks like it's with England, definitely. You scored recently for the Under-21s as well...
It was my first goal since my comeback from injury and I was delighted with that goal, just to get 1-0 up in the game and to carry on and give a good performance. As for club football, you're on loan at Sunderland and things are going really well for you...
I've loved my time at Sunderland. It's benefitted me so much as I've just gained invaluable experience playing week in, week out in the Premier League and mixing it with the big boys. I've learned so much and I'm hoping to improve again. Did Sunderland's Ghana lads Asamoah Gyan, John Mensah and Sulley Muntari try and persuade you to play for them?
I spoke to Asa and they understand my situation. I've been in Manchester all my life and I'm a Manc through and through. I've played for England at all the youth levels up to the Under-21s and it just felt like progression to graduate to the seniors. Danny Welbeck was speaking on MUTV's Young, Gifted and Red programme.
