BOSS READY FOR PHILLY TEST Sir Alex Ferguson has watched with interest the rise of Major League Soccer – and now the United boss is predicting a golden era for football across the pond. Speaking ahead of Wednesday night's friendly against Philadelphia Union, Sir Alex said: "The MLS has improved a lot over the last few years. Fans here are more knowledgeable about soccer now and the MLS is very competitive. "The form of the national team has helped and there are so many kids playing soccer in America. What we’re seeing is just the start: in 10 years I think soccer will be huge." The Reds kicked off the 2010 tour with a 3-1 win over Celtic in Toronto last weekend, and Ferguson is expecting another decent workout against Philadelphia. "We watched their last two games against Toronto (2-1 win) and Celtic (1-0 win) – they look a very competent team with lots of energy in midfield," Sir Alex added. "We’ll do our homework as best we can, but our main concern is the players’ fitness and tempo."
Reds defender Wes Brown, who played the second half against Celtic, said: "Philadephia is a great city with great training facilities – some of the best I’ve ever seen. It’s hot but it feels good and we are working hard." Philadelphia Union v United, 21 July, kick-off 19:30 local time (00:30 UK).
