ANDERSON UP FOR THE BATTLE
Anderson is looking forward to another bash at beating Birmingham City and says if it comes down to it, he’s not afraid to get stuck in and battle. United could – and perhaps should – have taken all three points when the two teams met at St Andrew’s on 28 December, but Lee Bowyer snatched a controversial late equaliser. Fortunate though it may have been, it highlighted how difficult Alex McLeish’s side are to beat. “Birmingham are a decent side who always make life tough,” says Anderson, in Saturday’s United Review.
“They have a lot of good players – we know all about Ben Foster, of course, and Zigic and Jerome, the strikers, are tricky to play against. They have a couple of physical midfielders, too. It won’t be an easy game, that’s for sure.” Anderson’s quick-tempo passing and ability to drive the Reds forward has been a major plus-point since his return from a serious knee injury. But the Brazilian is more than willing to mix it if the going gets tough in Saturday's game at Old Trafford.
“We Brazilians might not be known for our physicality, but I left South America for Europe when I was 18, so I have more of a European approach than others. I like to get involved in the game a lot, and if that means making contact with your opponent or being strong in the tackle, then that’s what I do.” More: Reds seek Rafael replacement | Valencia advance boosts United |
