Suzuki aims to take stake in Volkswagen soon

Friday, January 15, 2010

HAMAMATSU, Japan (Reuters) -- The head of Suzuki Motor Corp. said the company would like to take a stake in Volkswagen AG soon, and has asked Europe's top automaker to find shareholders that could sell their Volkswagen shares to the Japanese carmaker.

Suzuki and Volkswagen last month announced a comprehensive tie-up, and Europe's top automaker on Friday became Suzuki's main shareholder with a 19.9 percent stake.

Cross-shareholding between the two firms is part of the pact.

If this really happens, maybe there will be a large automotive company able to compete in europe and asia region. good quality, but at an affordable price

i don't know if that is a good thing. many europeans especially germans are very dedicated to their national car producers. I think a company that has both suzuki and WW on the director's chair would produce the best results
