BOSS: EVERY DAY WITH UNITED IS DIFFERENT

Sir Alex Ferguson insists he has never been tempted to try his hand at international management again.

Earlier in the same year he joined United, 1986, Sir Alex took charge of Scotland at the World Cup finals in the wake of Jock Stein's death. He was asked in New Jersey this week if returning to the international arena was something he might consider in the future. However, he made it clear that his work as Reds boss is enough to keep him fully motivated every day because of the challenge provided at Old Trafford.

"The first thing is I think that it's very easy to be motivated at Manchester United because we've always got a nucleus of young people in the club and that keeps me enthusiastic," revealed Sir Alex. "I love working with young people.

"The second thing is the history of Manchester United is so huge, there's great expectation and you don't want to fail in any sense of the word. So, for me, it's very easy to be motivated and enthusiastic about a great club with really, really good players as it's always a challenge. Every day is different for me. Something new happens, someone knocks on my door and surprises me and I go looking for things that surprise me.

"It's a great club to be with for any manager. To go into that situation 25 years ago, I never thought for one second my next 25 years would be full of these incredible experiences."

GABRIEL OBERTAN Q & A

Reds winger answers questions from United's new official French website...

Who is the greatest French player ever?
Without any doubt, it has to be Zinédine Zidane. He proved it in the World Cup, in the Euros and with all he accomplished at Real Madrid. What he did was just outstanding - I think everyone agrees on this.

What has been your most enjoyable moment at United?
There are quite a few. On a personal level, I think the goal against Bursaspor. With the team, it would be the championship last year. Everyone gave it 100 per cent and it was great to celebrate at Old Trafford in the end.

What do you miss most about France?
Without a doubt, my family. Although I miss my friends there too, the most difficult thing is being far from your folks for a long time. But I'm a big boy so I can deal with it.

Who was your hero growing up?
Thierry Henry was one of my favourite players when I was younger, he remains an example to many. We went through the same academy so we have things in common. I hope I can have the same success as he had by continuing to work hard.

BRING ON BARCELONA

ManUtd.com's Adam Marshall looks ahead to Saturday's rematch in America with United's Champions League final conquerors...

Barcelona are the best team on the planet right now, there seems little point refuting that statement, no matter how hard it is for United fans to admit. The Catalans have justifiably earned praise from all quarters following their convincing success in La Liga and Champions League final triumph at Wembley.

The manner of United's defeat in May has led to the manager and players stressing the need to bridge the gap and, ultimately, aim for revenge in Munich next year - or beforehand if the teams are drawn together en route in the Champions League. But, first of all, there is the chance to face Pep Guardiola's side again in the United States this weekend. The Reds may have been in Harlem this week and they come across football's version of the Globetrotters in Washington.

It's an exhibition match to savour but will probably offer only a few clues as to whether United will be able to overturn Barca next season. The European champions' Copa America stars (including Lionel Messi and spectacular new signing Alexis Sanchez) are still absent and the bid to buy Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has been predictably protracted. At least Guardiola can call upon the likes of Thiago Alcantara, who was outstanding in the European Under-21 Championship, but now has the unenviable task of breaking up a midfield that includes Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Whatever side Barcelona put out, it will play patient football on the deck and probe for openings in their traditional style. United, and above all the manager, simply hate losing so this friendly does present a chance for Sir Alex to test any game-plans or theories he has been hatching since 28 May. How do you beat the unbeatable? It's a question that the boss will have been pondering and Saturday may provide pointers rather than genuine answers. But it should, nevertheless, prove fascinating.

Membina Ribuan TKI Hingga Malaysia
Pernah dilabrak orang, pernah pula dapurnya nyaris tak mengepul.

Siang yang menyengat di bilangan Sungai Fatimah Kampung Tidung, Kabupaten Nunukan, Kalimantan Timur. Seorang pria paruh baya baru selesai menyampaikan khutbah Jum`at. Sekaligus ia diminta memimpin shalat Jum`at yang berlangsung khusyuk itu. Usai shalat, belum sempat membalikkan badan mengadap jamaah, tiba-tiba ia dilabrak salah seorang jamaah.

Selengkapnya>>

Red View: Keller move KO, Rooney reveals all, Seattle video + more

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

A TALE OF TWO KEEPERS

With David de Gea now in contention for a place in the United team, the man in the opposition goal on Wednesday has revealed he was once very close to joining the Reds.

Seattle Sounders keeper Kasey Keller has informed the Seattle Times that he rejected the opportunity to sign for Sir Alex Ferguson in the past because he would only have been a deputy at Old Trafford.

"From my understanding, it was very close one time," said the former Spurs shot-stopper. "It was a case of where they wanted me to come in as a back-up and I kind of decided at the last minute that I wouldn't be happy in a back-up role. I would have loved to have had the challenge to go to United and see what happened."

De Gea, meanwhile, has been training with his new team-mates for the first time ahead of the Seattle game with fans eagerly awaiting his debut following the close season move from Atletico Madrid.

United play twice before next week's Red View and MUTV and MUTV Online will screen both games - Seattle Sounders and Chicago Fire - live.

ROONEY: THE LAST TIME I...

Wayne Rooney was grilled by Nick Coppack of ManUtd.com in Seattle...

NC: When was the last time you went to a concert?
WR: A few weeks ago. In the summer, I went to Glastonbury and went to a few concerts so probably the one I enjoyed the most was Mumford & Sons. I was in a caravan and I enjoyed it.

NC: When was the last time you went shopping?
WR: It was last week, to Marks & Spencers on a food shop.

NC: When was the last day you went without signing an autograph?
WR: Honestly, I can't remember. Everywhere you go, guys have a pencil and always ask you.

NC: When was the last time you were starstruck?
WR: Probably when I met Mike Tyson a couple of years ago. It was in Manchester, actually, and I went for some food with him so it was really good.

NC: When did you last go to the cinema?
WR: I watched, I think it was called, Couples Retreat. I think that was the last time.

NC: When did you last do some DIY?
WR: I don't know, I'm not really very good. I'm not a handyman.

NC: When did you last cook a full meal?
WR: Does beans-on-toast count?

BLOG:  CARPE DIEM CLEVERLEY!

ManUtd.com's Adam Marshall puts the spotlight on Tom Cleverley...

When first-team chances arise at a club like Manchester United, they need to be taken.

Having served his apprenticeship in the Barclays Premier League with Wigan, Tom Cleverley will aim to prove he is capable of holding down a place in the Reds' midfield.

It's a tall order for the Basingstoke-born, Bradford-raised youngster who helped the Latics avoid the drop in dramatic fashion but will find battling for the title a different matter altogether. The player himself feels he is ready for the responsibility and able to justify Sir Alex's faith in both his ability and character. It can be argued that he will thrive playing alongside better players, finding them on a similar wavelength and pushing him to up his own game to a whole new level.

Certainly from the limited evidence of his first-team work at United, this could be the case for Cleverley. The England Under-21 international has taken his opportunities in pre-season friendlies and, of course, scored the goal of the tour last year with his solo effort against the MLS All-Stars.

Having proved to himself he can play at Premier League level, remember in 2010 he had only enjoyed Championship football, albeit very impressively, with Watford and a stint in League One at Leicester.

One thing sticks in my mind regarding Cleverley - a Hornets fan thanking him for his Player of the Year-winning contribution on an Internet messageboard and offering congratulations because he would become a millionaire. It was a sobering thought but the truth is the level-headed midfielder's burning ambition is to wear the red shirt of United on a regular basis and earn the adulation of the Old Trafford crowd, not to improve his bank balance.

Now he's linked up with the squad after his Under-21 exertions, when he looked to be played out of position for much of the European Championship, this is the time for Cleverley to prove he has what it takes to succeed with the champions. The likeable midfield man will give it his best shot and he could save the club a fortune in the transfer market if he hits the ground running in the United States.

RIO ENTHUSED BY NEW BOYS

Rio Ferdinand has welcomed United's new summer signings, insisting their arrival will help ensure the club moves forward in the right direction.

Sir Alex has moved to replace retiring stalwarts Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes with fresh blood, bringing in goalkeeper David De Gea, defender Phil Jones and attacker Ashley Young in the last few weeks. Ferdinand is excited by all three prospects and says ensuring the club stays successful is of paramount importance.

"This is a club that always evolves," he told reporters in Boston ahead of Wednesday's clash with New England Revolution, which will be shown live on MUTV and MUTV Online.

"Ever since I've been here it's been like that. And that's the most important thing. It's not about you as an individual or your personal feelings. It's about the club improving and continuing the success we've had over the years.

"It's great to see the great young players we've got coming through in the youth team and the reserves. And when the manager adds players of the quality of Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David De Gea, it can only improve the squad and hopefully ensure continued success."

BECKHAM TO FACE REDS

David Beckham is set to play against former club United later this month after being included in the fans' selection for the MLS All-Star squad.

LA Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan and New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry also feature in the XI for the high-profile fixture which is an important date on the champions' tour of the United States.

Beckham, who has become a father again after wife Victoria gave birth to daughter Harper Seven, scored direct from a corner for Galaxy in his last outing against Chicago Fire and turned back the clock to grace Old Trafford in close pal Gary Neville's testimonial at the end of last season.

Although 11 players were announced for the All-Star team, coach Hans Backe will have the final say on the starting XI and MLS commissioner Don Garber will add two further players on 16 July.

The AT&T MLS All-Star game takes place at the Red Bull Arena and United have already announced a strong squad for the tour.

MLS All-Star First XI: Kasey Keller (Seattle); Omar Gonzalez (Galaxy), Sean Franklin (Galaxy), Rafa Marquez (New York), Tim Ream (New York); David Beckham (Galaxy), Jack Jewsbury (Portland), Brek Shea (Dallas); Landon Donovan (Galaxy), Thierry Henry (New York), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose). Text vote winner: Matt Besler (Kansas City).

BLOG:  THE YOUNG PRETENDERS

ManUtd.com's Adam Marshall wonders if the manager can find a top-class midfielder from within the ranks...

It is simply impossible to ignore the quality of Ravel Morrison and Sir Alex's hint that he may be able to find Paul Scholes' heir apparent from within the youth side will surely provide another fillip to the 18-year-old from Wythenshawe.

The midfield maestro played the second half of United Reserves' friendly against Curzon Ashton on Monday night and produced a couple of moments of class that would grace the Barclays Premier League. In the last seconds of the game, he jinked his way through the defence to plant an assured finish into the net to again show he has a cutting edge to go with his skills.

Scholes has been impressed with Morrison in training and it's not a bold move to predict the teenager will be on course to make his senior debut before the year is out if he continues to shine at reserve level.

Morrison is a different kind of player to Scholes but there are similiarities in terms of his short, intricate passing and eye for goal. Paul Pogba is another proposition altogether, combining muscle and guile to good effect. The Frenchman showed flashes of outstanding individual ability and forced one stupendous save out of home keeper Josh Ollerenshaw and he's another with virtually limitless potential if he can learn the trade of a top-flight midfielder.

The third outstanding member of the engine room of the side that lifted the FA Youth Cup is Ryan Tunnicliffe, who will be playing Championship football with Peterborough at least until January. A tenacious, box-to-box midfielder, he is again a different type of animal to Scholes but, as everybody from Sir Alex down is at pains to point out, there will not be an identikit replacement for the 36-year-old.

So a glimmer of hope has been given by the manager to his teenaged tyros and that could be all the encouragement they need to try and bridge the huge gap between the reserves and first team. Even if Sir Alex does find a solution in the transfer market, these youngsters will still be straining at the leash to show they're good enough to play for the champions.
