EVRA REVEALS CUP MESSAGE

Patrice Evra has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson has spelled out his determination to win the FA Cup this season.

The Frenchman would love to get his hands on the famous trophy and could be in line for his first outing in this season's competition when Fulham provide the opposition in the fourth round on Saturday.

"The boss has given a big message this season – he really wants to win the FA Cup," Evra told United Review. "He really wants it and so do we.

"It is the only trophy that I have not won at Manchester United. That seems impossible given that I am now in my seventh year here. The FA Cup means so much and, one day, I hope I will win it. Hopefully this year."

The left-back feels Sir Alex is able to shuffle his pack for the cup competitions and yet still progress, something that was evident considering Evra did not feature himself in the two ties with West Ham.

"Manchester United is the only team that can make 10 changes and still win," he asserted. "You might hear people call it a second team, but it’s not. Everyone is a United player and you trust each one of your team-mates. The manager makes those changes because he trusts that we are going to win. He’s not crazy, he knows exactly what he is doing."

FANS REACT TO ZAHA DEAL

United supporters have been busy on the Talking Reds messageboard discussing the signing of Wilfried Zaha with the England international set to arrive at the club in July after a move was agreed with Crystal Palace.

General-K: "He's a good, young player with wonderful balance and technique. There's plenty to work with and I pray he gets the opportunity to learn from the best winger to ever wear the Manchester United shirt - Ryan Giggs - for at least a season. I have faith in this acquisition and believe it will be a fruitful future for Mr Zaha at Old Trafford."

thomas21: "I am delighted with this signing. I think he will be a great player for us. He's big, strong and committed with loads of talent. He'll become better with great players around him here."

FtD: "He's a similar transfer to Ashley Young. Hopefully, he'll perform near the same level."

wliucci: "There is a fair bit of technique there and, coupled with a 6ft sprinter's frame, he looks like a beast. Having said that, it's clear he's still a raw talent but I'm sure, with a bit of time, he could be a heck of a player."

Moyesy: "I think it would have been a big ask for a 20-year-old kid to move his life from London to Manchester in a matter of days, get right up to speed with the quality, get the intensity, integrate with the squad and then be expected to make an impact. Getting a full pre-season under his belt will help him no end."

CHICHARITO IN THE HOT-SEAT

Supporters took to United’s Facebook page to put their questions to Javier Hernandez…

Are you the fastest player at United? - Christian Gore
I don’t know. It’s difficult to say yes. In training players like Nani, Antonio Valencia, Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney are all very fast.  I don’t know if I am the fastest but I think I am one of the quickest – maybe I’m in the top five! We need to have a race.

Can you tell the difference between Mancunians  and Scousers – between, say, Welbeck and Rooney? -Jamie O’Neill
Even in the way the two speak, it is very different. I’ve been in England for three years now so it’s easy for me to tell the difference between someone from Manchester and someone from Liverpool. When I first came here, everyone that spoke English sounded exactly the same! But now I know the accents. Mind you, it’s still difficult to understand Wazza sometimes, though!

How did it feel to be named Mexican  Athlete of the Year? - Neema Nabavian
I didn’t know that! If that’s true then I am very happy. In my country in the last couple of years sport has really improved. In the Olympics we got more medals than we are used to winning and we won the gold medal in the football. In boxing we have many good athletes.  I wouldn’t want to leave someone out by naming all the other Mexican athletes  I admire, there are many. Individual honours and prizes are great but without my team-mates or the club I couldn’t do it.

JONES: BRING ON THE BIG GAMES

Phil Jones says taking on one huge match after another is a key aspect of being a Manchester United player.

The England international is delighted to be fit and thriving again after a frustrating spell out injured during the first half of the campaign. After earning praise from Sir Alex Ferguson for his defensive display in the FA Cup replay win against West Ham, Jones hopes to be involved in as many matches as possible in the coming weeks as the Reds battle on three fronts.

“The reason you come to Manchester United is to play in big games every week in different competitions,” Jones told Red View. “As well as league games and FA Cup matches we’ve got two massive games coming up against Real Madrid and they’re all matches that I’ll relish if I'm involved.

“Personally, it was good to get another full game in [against West Ham] and good to be playing at centre-back which is a position I always enjoy playing.

"I was just pleased to get a run-out. It’s been so frustrating to be out injured – I’m a nightmare patient! But I feel fit and strong and hopefully I can get a good run in the side between now and the end of the season.

"It’s great to come back into a team that’s doing so well and playing so well. It’s a nice feeling to be top of the league and hopefully we can keep things going this weekend.”

Next up for the Reds is Sunday's visit to high-flying Tottenham and Jones admits the hosts "have got some brilliant individual players and we'll have to be wary of them all.

"It’ll be a test for whoever comes up against Gareth Bale – he’s a great player. But the most important thing for us is to concentrate on what we’re about and how we’ll approach the game."

EVANS' UNITED AMBITION

Jonny Evans looks to the future after recently renewing his commitment to the Reds...

You signed a new contract before Christmas. Do you see yourself as a one-club player?
I’d like to. Obviously I’ve had my loan spells but I have come through the Academy here and now I’m in the first team. When I was younger, clubs were asking me to go on trial from a young age and I never went on trial to another club. I just knew that Manchester United was the place I wanted to play football. So to play here throughout my career would be something I would look to do and I’d love to do it. But I can’t look too far ahead. I’m still only 24 so I’ll see where this takes me.

In five years’ time, do you think you’ll appreciate even more having learned your trade alongside Rio and Nemanja?
When I first came into the first-team squad, the level that those two were playing at was unbelievable. It was a big ask for younger players to try and emulate them. It still is, I suppose, although Chris [Smalling] has been here three years now and Phil [Jones] is in his second season. But for me coming through the youth team, looking at these two fantastic players, it was all about trying to get to that level – not necessarily as quickly as possible but just to the best of my ability. I just tried to be as good as I can be really. That’s been the challenge for me. It’s not really been the challenge of getting into a normal first-team – it’s the challenge of trying to reach a standard set by Rio and Vidic, two of the best centre-backs in the world. It’s probably the biggest challenge of all.

Which of your team-mates has impressed you most this season?
I actually think Rafael has done really well. He has shown real maturity. His brother has gone out on loan now and it’s probably given him a lot more responsibility. Because of the injuries, too, there hasn’t been much competition for him at right-back so he has really stepped into the position and made it his own.

The full interview with Jonny Evans appears in this month's Inside United, the club's official magazine.

FOCUS ON... FEDERICO MACHEDA

The Italian striker goes under the spotlight in an interview first shown on MUTV...

I first kicked a ball when...
I was seven, I think. My dad took me to a football club and I started to play there.

How I signed for United...
I'd just started and couldn't believe it because I thought it was fake talk. So I'd started to play for my team and then the scout had been calling me from Manchester United and I started to realise it was real.

My footballing idol
It was Marco van Basten, the striker from AC Milan. When I was young, my dad used to show me his clips from when he was playing. So he was my idol. I think he was maybe the best striker ever, for me.

My favourite footballing moment
Of course, the day of my debut. It was brilliant for me. The week before, the manager said to me I had a chance to go on the bench. Of course, I was happy but as I was young, I didn't believe it. In my next game for the reserves, I scored three goals and then, that Sunday, I was on the bench. I didn't think I'd go on the pitch that day because I thought I was just making up the numbers with all the strikers missing. But then Sir Alex called me and I couldn't believe it. I was on the pitch and the rest happened as it happened!

My career ambitions
Of course, I want to become a top footballer. That's my dream and nobody can stop me. I want to achieve lots of stuff in football even if I know it won't be easy.

What do you love about football?
I think the supporters. The atmosphere in the stadium in the big games, stuff like that. I love training with my team-mates as well. We're always laughing in the changing room and it's great.
