SIR ALEX EXPECTS PASSION IN FINAL MATCH

Sir Alex Ferguson believes Sunday's clash at the Stadium of Light will be a passionate affair as the Reds chase an unlikely turnaround at the top of the Barclays Premier League table.

Victory for United and any dropped points for Manchester City at home to QPR would clinch a record 20th title for the current champions but Sunderland will be awkward opponents and Martin O'Neill has already urged his side to show the same sort of desire that lifted them away from relegation trouble earlier in the season.

"They are passionate up there," stated Sir Alex. "It's a quality for them. Newcastle and Sunderland have passionate fans. I've always recognised that, even as a young lad. There's always been passion up there and it won't be any different on Sunday."

O'Neill deserves plenty of credit for sparking an upturn in the club's fortunes after taking over from former United captain Steve Bruce at the end of last year.

"He has turned the club around," added Sir Alex. "No question about that. Steve was very unfortunate but it was a lot to do with him being from Newcastle so he never got any leeway.

"Martin came with a great CV. Every club he's been at, he's made them better. Aston Villa, Leicester, Celtic. He is an outstanding manager, no doubt about that."

EVRA STILL BELIEVES

The odds of Manchester United winning the Barclays Premier League this weekend may be slim, but Reds stand-in skipper Patrice Evra says he's still confident of getting his hands on the trophy.

United and Manchester City head into Sunday's final round of fixtures level on points, but City's vastly superior goal difference - and a home game against relegation-threatened QPR - means the Blues are heavy favourites to clinch a first league title in 44 years. Despite that, Evra insists he won't give up hope as the Reds prepare to travel to Sunderland to face Martin O'Neill's side at the Stadium of Light.

"At the beginning of the week, the team was really down," Evra admitted. "And we were really down before the game against Swansea last weekend because we expected a little miracle from Newcastle [last Sunday when they played City]. But it didn't happen. Now we just believe. We're level on points going into the final day.

"Maybe people will say I'm crazy or that I'm only saying this because I'm a Manchester United player, but I still believe we can win this title. I know the destiny of the title is not in our hands, but we will just make sure we start the game well against Sunderland. It's not an easy place to go but I think we will win in front of all their fans. We have no choice but to believe. If we want to keep believing in the miracle we have to beat Sunderland."

UNITED'S GREATEST MATCHES

The Reds have been involved in some epic clashes over the years, some of the most famous matches in the history of the game. But which one is your favourite? Have your say here.

We're asking the fans to vote for the greatest-ever game after an expert panel selected a shortlist of 10 from the club's glorious past. There's the 1948 FA Cup final win over Blackpool and the Busby Babes' record 10-0 annihilation of Anderlecht as well as the emotional first game post-Munich against Sheffield Wednesday. The Wembley win against Benfica that ensured European glory for Sir Matt, a decade after the disaster, is clearly a strong contender for top spot.

The only option from the 1980s is the remarkable 3-0 European Cup Winners' Cup triumph against Diego Maradona's Barcelona in front of an ecstatic Old Trafford. The first featured game from the 1990s is the memorable one against Sheffield Wednesday en route to the first Premier League title, when a win was secured with Steve Bruce's two late headers.

The Treble-winning campaign of 1999 has three nominations - the last-ever FA Cup semi-final replay with Arsenal, stirring comeback at Juventus and, of course, the Champions League final itself when Bayern Munich were beaten at the death. The next European Cup success, against Chelsea in Moscow, completes the list.
