SPURS NEXT ON HERNANDEZ'S HIT LIST

United are without two experienced front men for Tottenham's visit to Old Trafford on Saturday as Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen face extended spells on the sidelines. But the form of Dimitar Berbatov and emergence of Javier Hernandez means the Reds are in good shape.

Chicharito has six goals this season, including four in his last four games and two winners in the last two matches. Sir Alex Ferguson says, "Everyone at the club is excited about him. He has the right desires, trains well and is very receptive to coaching. He looks after himself and everything's in his favour.

“We did a lot of work on him before we signed him. Seeing him in pre-season and in training, we thought he'd do well and he has.

"You never know with a young boy coming from Mexico because it’s a different culture. But he speaks the language and that’s important. His winning goal on Tuesday demonstrated again that he’s a very good finisher."

It’s not just Hernandez that has instigated a turnaround in fortunes for United, now with three straight wins. “All the players are focused,” explains the boss. “It was a great result at Stoke. Everyone knows how difficult it is there. It was good coming back from losing a goal. Given our record this season, it could have been a killer. But it galvanised the players and we played our best football after that. The fans were brilliant too. It was a big lift for everyone.”

PREPARATION KEY FOR INCREDIBLE EDWIN

Edwin van der Sar turned 40 on Friday with Sir Alex Ferguson using the words “brilliant” and “incredible” to describe the Dutchman.

But the Reds boss isn’t surprised that van der Sar is still playing top-level football as he enters his fifth decade in life – simply because of his professionalism.

“He’s absolutely brilliant, incredible,” enthuses Sir Alex. “He’s got there because he has prepared his whole life to be a top player. His preparation, standard of life, everything has been absolutely geared to staying in the game as long as he has.”

Van der Sar has been one of the manager’s most influential signings of recent years. The question now is whether the Dutchman will carry on with the no.1 jersey beyond the end of the season, when his contract runs out.

“He’s come to that stage and it’s in his mind about what he wants to do,” says the boss. “We haven’t spoken about it, but I think he’s still enjoying his football.”

PAT'S PASSION FOR MUSIC

Patrice Evra discusses his role as dressing room DJ...

What sort of prematch tunes do the players listen to?
I play different things for the lads. I don’t pick songs that only I like but those my team will go for because I want everybody to enjoy it. I love doing it and I think the lads like it, too, because I remember somebody else trying to put their iPod on in the dressing room, and everybody booed him and demanded that my music was put back on.

Do you have any musical talents yourself?
No, but I wish I could play the guitar. I have one, but I’ve tried playing it and I’m really, really bad! [laughs] It’s more difficult than I thought. I love music and that comes from my dad. When I was young, every Sunday my house was like a nightclub because the music was so high and it was a small house. When I’m at home or in a hotel, I prefer listening to music to watching TV.

Are there any good singers or musicians in the dressing room?
Nani says he plays piano, but I’ve never heard it. Singing? [laughs] Please! No, nobody here can sing.

Does that include the manager?
The boss is always singing, but they’re very old songs that not everybody knows. He likes Frank Sinatra, who is a great singer, but… no [shakes head and laughs].
