SMALLING ACCEPTS CRITICISM

Chris Smalling acknowledges fans and journalists are correct to ask questions of Manchester United at present.

Although the champions lie just three points behind Manchester City and have amassed more points now than at the same stage of last season's title-winning campaign, the young defender is sympathetic with those demanding more.

"I can understand it," Smalling told United Review, the official matchday programme.

"We're second in the league and expectations of this club - from both inside and out - are massive. If we're not on top then everybody's asking why. Rightly so, too. Finishing second with more points than we collected last season won't make us feel any better about ourselves. The only objective is to win the league."

That task continues on Saturday when the Reds host Bolton Wanderers.

"The Blackburn game was a good reminder that you can't take anything for granted," warned Smalling. "If we want to win the title we have to beat everybody we come up against. We really need three points and that's the only thing on our minds."

VALENCIA ANSWERS THE FANS

In-form Antonio fields questions posted on ManUtd.com's message board...

What is your favourite game you've played for United so far? (Ryan Clarke)
It's a strange one to say because we lost the game, but the game against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final a couple of years ago always sticks in my memory. The football we played in the first half that night was unbelievable, it was just such a shame that it didn't take us through.

What's your favourite TV series? (Vikas Sharma)
I'd have to say Dexter, because it's just a really interesting storyline, about a guy who works for the police, but also goes around killing bad guys. He's a policeman and a serial killer and the whole show is well made, well acted. I really enjoy watching it.

How quick are you over 100 metres? (Trivar Jamunapersad)
(Laughs) I normally walk it! No, I've never been timed but I think, if I did, then I would be pretty slow. I think I'm slower than our fitness coach, Tony Strudwick!
