BOSS: I HAVE FAITH IN MY MEN

Sir Alex Ferguson has unflinching faith that, given the opportunity to win the title in the last two games of the season, his players won’t let him down.

Chelsea hold the advantage, but the league leaders are just a point ahead of United and face a trip to Anfield before the Reds play Sunderland - a game Sir Alex isn’t underestimating.

United secured a late win last weekend against Tottenham Hotspur, and the manner of the victory has filled Sir Alex with confidence. “We played without nerves last week,” he said. “We showed great temperament. At 1-1 with 20 minutes left, we had to raise the bar. I thought that was the best part of our game. We showed great determination to get back in front.

“We made one or two changes, which worked for us. But the temperament was fantastic. If you get that with three games to go then you can be confident and trust your players for the last two matches.

"If we get a chance to win the title in the last game, that’s all we would wish for.”

Before taking on Stoke City at Old Trafford next Sunday, United must first take three points at the Stadium of Light. But Steve Bruce’s Black Cats are no pushovers. “Sunderland have hit form,” says the boss. “My old captain has done a great job and he's started to bring one or two young players which is refreshing.

“Darren Bent has had a great season, young Fraizer Campbell is doing very well. He's getting a quota of goals and it is encouraging for him. Kenwyne Jones is also a real handful and they’ve got some good young players in their team, like [David] Meyler and [Jordan] Henderson. So we know what we're facing.

“And it’s one thing saying we hope Liverpool do us a turn, it’s Sunderland’s last home game of the season and they are in good form. Sunderland will do their best and we have to match that. It’s not an easy game.”

NEVILLE: WE NEED TO DO OUR JOB

United skipper Gary Neville will draw from 15 years of title-race experience when he heads into the penultimate weekend of the Barclays Premier League...

Looking at Chelsea's last game (next weekend), it's at home to Wigan. No disrespect to Wigan but it will be very difficult for them to go to Stamford Bridge and get something so the slip we require from Chelsea is more likely to come against Liverpool at Anfield this Sunday.

We obviously still have to do our job and fully concentrate on it because we've got a tough game ourselves at Sunderland. I was in the team that played 15 years ago when Liverpool did us a favour by beating Blackburn but we drew at West Ham.

As a professional and having been in the situation before - I think me, Giggsy and Scholesy were there that day at West Ham in 1995 - we're fully aware that we've got to do our own job and hopefully something can happen in the other game. We'll know where we are when our game starts and that's a good thing in some ways.

If we were to benefit from something happening at Anfield, then we'd have to go out there at Sunderland knowing that the league was in our hands and that brings its own pressures. We have to perform.
